Bombed Lesson Plan
Today started out like any other I had been gearing up throughout the week to teach this new lesson to first hour I had even gotten it pushed back a day to further prepare to teach it. I was going to teach first hour how to layout the grid method on a sheet of paper. I got into the classroom and prepped everything. Once the students came in and I had taken attendance I started the lesson. I thought I was doing pretty well until I choked trying to do some simple math in my head. From that moment on it was a straight nose dive of a crash. As my supervisor informed me later on I lost the lesson even earlier on when the students were not engaged to what I was saying. Needless to say this is one that I am going to have to redo.

Teaching lessons in four classes gearing up to add a fifth
I am currently teaching lessons in four different classes and currently I am gearing up to teach a lesson in first hour tomorrow. So far I all of the classes are going quite well I do have to say that second hour has really taken a shine to the duct tape project one student is even making a vest out of duct tape, I can't wait to see what that turns out like. Fourth hour is starting to get frustrated with is new ring project part of the that is the overwhelming new experience of the project but part of it comes from the fact that this class is overly impatient and expect everything to happen now, immediately.

After School Art Club
This is my first official day as an art teach at the after school program that is art club. One of the students from fifth hour came in she has been absent quite a bit and needs help to finish to get started with is new project. I start helping her with the work it quickly becomes apparent that she is a special needs student. I think I spent the the entire time in art club attending to this one student. I came to realized from this experience that some students require full one on one attention which is really hard to do when you have that same student in a class of thirty four students.

New Project 4th Hour
Oh fourth hour you are the smallest class of the bunch however you are the most out of control. Today I am starting a new project with them. This project is one of Ms. Knights tried and true projects the silverware rings. I showed another youtube video as kind of a lead up into what I am expecting them to do with this project. I have to admit the youtube videos are growing on me I really liked researching this project and finding out some of the history of the where this project came from.

New Project 2nd Hour
I started a new lesson for second hour today, they are going to begin making a duct tape project. This project is usually for the students to make a wallet or some other functional item out of duct tape. The classes reception to this project was quite warm to my surprise. I look forward to seeing where they take this. I introduced the piece with a youtube demo video, this is something that my cooperating teacher is really into however I don't know what to think about this yet.

IEPs
Today I got my first look at the IEPs for the students in my classes. I must say I was taken aback at first that some of these classes had so many which is kind of a shock. There is not a single hour throughout the day that does not have an IEP student. The real shocker is that there are so many in some of the classes, take fourth hour there are six of them in there and that is one of the smaller classes I have throughout the day.

The Substitute
Well I am back from being out sick the other day but today my cooperating teacher is out sick and has called in a sub. This is truly my first on your own trial by fire experience teaching when you are in charge all day long. Of all the classes I have during the day fourth hour is my most trying but they are still working on a previous project. The only two classes starting new lessons this week are fifth and sixth hours. Both classes are starting a ceramic project which is right up my ally I have to say that I am really looking forward to these two. The lessons are fairly straight forward slab, drape or coil built vessel. These are the first two classes that I am actually introducing a new project in.

Sick Day
I had to call in sick today, I have been battling something that I picked up in the elementary level and it has left feeling severely under the weather I the last couple of weeks I think today it reached its peak I should be back tomorrow however I will be completely in charge since my new cooperating teacher will have a substitute.

Second day at the high school
My second day at the high school, I am still observing but now I am starting to take attendance and answering questions from the students. I am kind of jumping in because I want to start my unit as soon as possible.
Monday, October 21, 2013
First official day at BHS
I have to get up a whole hour earlier, to get here on time. I must say that upon my first impression the high school is run much more efficiently than the elementary schools however I feel that if the same amount of money was pumped into the elementary schools they would be just as well run. My new cooperating teacher gives me a tour of the rooms the school and the procedures for setting up the classroom each morning. Today all I really did was walk around and observe the way Ms. Knight ran each of the classes.

PD Day for Student Teachers
All of the student teachers are required to spend all of today at a PD event held at EMU. I learned some interesting ideas that I want to try and incorporate in the high school classroom for classroom management.

This is officially my last day at the elementary level
I walk into the school knowing it is my last day here, it make me wish that student teaching for K-12 went a semester in primary and a semester in secondary because I feel that I just got started and now I have to leave. I just found my rhythm and now I am getting dumped out of my fish bowl into an overly large pond that I don't feel prepared for. We see a few more a our original classes today but all of the fourth graders are still Meaping. I was able to finish up about half to the lessons I had started with the classes at the Edge. That afternoon we found out that starting on November first the specials schedules will all be shifted around and restructured. Its a shame we can only imagine what all this upheaval does to these young students.

Road trip to Resa for PD Day
Today my cooperating teacher and I went on a road trip to Berrien county to attend a day of the dead workshop geared towards art teachers. We were surprised when we arrived that there were very few art teachers in attendance. In fact it was a good balance of art, spanish, music and social studies. I was kind of taken aback that there were really only fifteen teachers in attendance. I made it a point to talk to everybody and pass out business cards in case they hear of any art education positions available near by.

Teaching the ASD class
I have been setting up this lesson all weekend this is probably perceived to be one of the most challenging classes to ever work with. However ever it turned out great they were not as out of control as they could have been. I was kind of bummed when I walk past their classroom that morning and saw that they had done and art project that was almost identical to the one I had set up called the five little pumpkins.

Final Monday
I am frantically trying to finish up any of the lessons that I am currently working on with the students to allow for a seamless transition back to Mrs. Hickson. The first graders are be finished by Wednesday with their Paint Chip Rainbow projects.
Friday, October 11, 2013
Final Friday
It is hard to believe that this is going to be my final Friday at the elementary level. Today I had a student named Nolan who is one of the toughest cookies I have ever had to deal with. He was a disruption every five minutes I even went as far as to give him a time out in the corner which he still managed to disrupt the class further by hitting the light switch. I informed his teacher that I recommend he get a card flip when he gets back to class to which she informed me that he is already on red. If the student has already blown through all of the corrective behavior procedures then what else can be done.

More Meaping
Here at the Edge again the Meaping schedule is still messed up the regular elementary teachers have a little more control over the overall testing schedule but it specials teachers are still left out in the cold again we only have two classes instead of our regular number.
Wednesday, October 9, 2013
Second Observation
Today I had my second observation. It didn't go as smoothly as I had originally anticipated because I tried at the last minute to incorporate technology with an elmo that we had in the room. This is the half-way point I in a week I head over to the high school I am somewhat excited but I feel so unprepared for what might lye ahead for me.
Tuesday, October 8, 2013
Day 26, Day 1 of MEAPING
Since today was the first official day of MEAP season we only had two classes today both in the afternoon in morning we were relegated to proctoring the test while teachers had their prep. During this morning I got to hang out with Declan because they didn't receive his large print test yet. It was pretty good I got to find out some more of his interest and he gave me two good ideas for future lesson plans. However I won't be able to implement another plan to integrate him into the class before I leave the elementary school.
Monday, October 7, 2013
Day 25, ROY G BIV
Today I am starting a new lesson with the young fives called ROY G BIV Bracelet. One class finished the Pixelated Rainbows which they just started on Friday. The ROY G BIV lesson didn't go as smoothly as I thought in fact I could see I was loosing them near the end.
Friday, October 4, 2013
Day 24
It's Friday again another week down. Today I am starting the Pixelated Rainbow project here at Savage. I have noticed that each time a I teach a new lesson for the second time I have tweaked it severely. I changed the organization here at Savage and one of the classes is already half done. compared to the two at the Edge where it will probably be a three day lesson. Most of the Tiki Mask are done by now.
Thursday, October 3, 2013
Day 23, Pixelated Rainbows
Finishing the third grades self portraits but fourth is still in the middle of their Exquisite Corpse project. There is one student in there named Declan that is visually impaired I have tried several things to get him involved and today I was so close to bringing him into the group work but at the last five minutes he ducked out into the hall frustrated. So close yet so far away. Now in the afternoon I had two classes that were going to be starting a new project I like to call the Pixelated Rainbow it looks a little bit like something out of mine craft.
Wednesday, October 2, 2013
Day 22
Wednesday, I haven't seen these kids in two weeks because of the PDD and with them I still have to finish the what is art which they would have had last week if we had seen them. So all morning I was lecturing and teaching a kindergarten class and a first second split both working on the Tiki Mask.
Tuesday, October 1, 2013
Day 21, First Day in Clay
On this fine day I am starting a lesson near and dear to my heart, with a third grade class we are starting a lesson called Experiencing Clay Vessels. I showing the kids what they can make with a ball of clay. We are using an oil based clay that will allow them to work the clay over and over because it will never dry. I promised them that they would be able to take the clay home to make things out of it at their own convenience after I was finished teaching the lesson. This particular lesson I gauged would take about two days.

Day 20, Projects Ending
A new Monday and a new week. Every class that we have today is finishing whatever project they are working on, we have Jasper Johns Flags ending today and Tiki Mask ending today. Next time we see these classes they will all be starting new projects. I should probably mention that at this time I am running about 85% - 90% of the classes on a weekly basis.
Friday, September 27, 2013
Day 19, More What is Art
Friday oh Friday I continued giving the what is art spiel all morning and then after lunch I continued with the two classes doing the Jasper Johns Flag project and two classes doing the Tiki Mask project. Every Friday so far I have still been working at the movie theater however I feel that my time there is slowly coming to an end.
Thursday, September 26, 2013
Day 18, The Return of What is Art
What is art it is a question that we asked week ago to the older students. I made a power point for this short presentation I was going to give based on some of the answers they wrote down. This was originally only supposed to be a fifteen minute presentation but instead it lasted the entire class for each class I gave it to. most classes were fully engaged and some didn't even get through the whole slide show. It was while I was lecturing that I realized that my for was starting to go by the time I got the fifth class today.

Day 17, PD Day
Today is a professional development day, everybody is heading over to the high school. No students today just us teachers. Today I got my first glimpse of the high school art room and I must say it is divine however it doesn't have the gently used art room look that B.H.S had. But it does have a similar set up I am really looking forward to working in there. The first half of the day was quite interesting hearing about the districts plans to build a fine arts house hear at the high school level. while the afternoon session was filled with a lot of negativity and venting of frustration. I feel that I came away from the PDD with two things one if you don't have something create it. My high school had an awesome program that was not funded by the school district but through fund raising by the students. This gave them a sense of ownership and connected them to that room. I feel that there should be more fundraising to support the arts programs. The second thing I learned kind of ties into the first. If this art house is ever going to get off the ground there needs to be an influx of money pouring into the elementary schools because the budget discrepancy is difference is ridiculous.

Day 16, Changing up some things that weren't working.
A new week at the Edge. We changed up some of the schedule since we share this classroom with two other art teachers and one of them is working in self-portraits at the beginning of the year we changed it up started the Exquisite Corpse with the fourth graders on six foot sheets of paper. I think this is a more appropriate age group for this project and I like this format better. Note to self do not do this again with a classes younger than fourth grade. Another thing we started last week was asking the the third and fourth grade classes what they thought was and was not art. We told them that we would return to that question a week later. Starting Thursday we'll return with more on what is art.
Monday, September 23, 2013
Day 15, A New Week
We have more classes starting their first projects today. We talked with the music teacher earlier and he said he was planning on doing a couple sessions on Polynesian music and wanted to know if we could do an art project set around that theme. We quickly agreed to that and after some research came up with a lesson for a Tiki-Mask. This project we knew we wanted to weave into the schedule for all of the grade levels to collaborate with the music teacher. We started those with the kindergartens at the end of the day and a second and third split.
Friday, September 20, 2013
Day 14, Week 3 Down
It is Friday again and that means that I have survived another week. Today the rest another batch of classes at Savage are officially starting their first projects of the new year. It ranges from the self-portraits to the Jasper Johns Flag to two second grade classes at the end of the day doing the Exquisite Corpse. I am starting to get the feeling that the Exquisite Corpse idea for first and second graders is not working out.

Day 13, Painting the Wall
The Edge is a peculiar elementary school it is just a different atmosphere than Savage. on some days that is really a good thing on others it can be trying and frustrating. Finally we are starting our first project with the all of the classes are seeing today. With our third and fourth graders just like at Savage they have started a self-portrait project to gauge their growth over time. However in the afternoon I am starting a new project with the first and second graders called the Exquisite Corpse. My cooperating teacher read a copy of the Salvador Dali book from the series getting to know the world's greatest artist and I proceeded to introduce the project after that. This is a project that forces the students to work collaboratively throughout the assignment since the drawing will be done in three parts by three separate students. I have high hopes for this well see what day two of this project yields. During our principle directed time we got the wall painted for the mural that we are planning on putting up.
Wednesday, September 18, 2013
Day 12, First Official Project starting
It's Wednesday and we're back at Savage. All of our classes except for the young fives will be starting their first project today. For the third and fourth graders their first project is a a self-portrait this is our yearly assessment project. A self-portrait at the beginning of the year and one at the end of the year to show how the students have grown in their drawing skills over the course of a year. Our last class of the day is a first and second split we are continuing a our Jasper Johns flag project that we started with them last week.
Tuesday, September 17, 2013
Day 11, Constitution Day
Today we are back at the edge, it is Constitution Day so we have to include something about the constitution in our lesson plan. Since we were assigning seats and creating table folders we showed them a clip from the school house rock video. Many of the students said that they had already seen it earlier today however our kindergarten class in the afternoon loved it. There is really something special about having a young class that has no experience in anything. It allows them to be wowed by every thing we do as teachers.
Monday, September 16, 2013
Day 10, Seminar 2
Today was kind of an odd day there was an assembly in the morning that cut the time of two of our classes so they weren't able to really start the Jasper Johns project. The assembly was for that group that come to every elementary school in the country I think to peddle holiday goods for the kids to sell, I remember doing this when I was their age. Anyway the company man speaking to the students used this song called gummy bear witch I noticed really got their attention, it also reminded me of the song Crazy Frog. I had to leave around lunch for my second student teaching seminar in Milan at one of the elementary schools. It was at this seminar that I finally saw all of the other student teachers together at the same time with our supervisor. We talked about different things related to writing our units & teaching those to each of the classes. I think overall it was a giant cramming session similar to study hall the day before the final exam. I went over a lot of information but some of it still seems a little fuzzy I know I will be emailing our supervisor for clarification on more than one of the topics discussed that day. Since I am the only specials teacher in this group 7 also the only one who is jumping between both primary & secondary, but several age groups & grades.
Friday, September 13, 2013
Day 9, Made it through Week 2
It is friday again I can't believe how fast everything has flown by. I told my cooperating teacher that I would like to take charge of every other class each day so that I can get more experience especially since my E.M.U. supervisor is coming on the 18th to observe me teaching a lesson. Two of the classes today started their Jasper Johns projects while the rest of the classes were assigned seats & finished their table folders. I have to head off to my paying job tonight I hope there is someone to close with because I don't know if I can do another twenty two hour day.
Thursday, September 12, 2013
Day 8, Principle Directed Time is Directed.
The Edge is always a different type of environment than that of Savage I like that we are there on Tuesdays & Thursdays because it adds another level of complexity to being a specials teacher instead of focusing on one grade all day every day. Today the principle gave my co-operating teacher & I an assignment to do during our PD time. She wants us to come up with mural for the wall at the bottom of the stairwell it must have the school motto though. With all of the classes we saw today we finished up helper cards, assigned seats & made table folders.
Wednesday, September 11, 2013
Day 7, A Day That Many of Us Will Never Forget, Patriot's Day
This is the second Wednesday of the the entire school year, that means this is also the first staff meeting I will be going to this year. This is also the day for one class in particular here at Savage that is going to start their first project of the year. For Jackson's class they see us on Wednesdays & Fridays so they have already finished their helper cards & table folders. The project we are going to be starting with them is a Flag Assemblage in the style of Jasper Johns. I had printed up some some examples of Johns work so the students could see some of the work he has made over the years. We talked about the importance Patriot's Day since all of these students were born after 9/11. They seem really stoked for doing the assignment.
Tuesday, September 10, 2013
Day 6, Oh the Joys of the Edge.
This is the first Tuesday at Edgemont we're still rattling off the spiel & making helper cards one of the classes showed up late so they didn't even get to finish their helper cards which isn't a bad thing, but this should only be a one class project. This is the first day we are seeing the ASD kids part of me is saying I can't wait I have a cousin who is autistic so I am looking forward to this class. The ASD class is our last class of the day after which we have principle directed time. It was during the ASD class that I feel I saw one of my first real challenges that is going to come with the world of teaching. These kids were out of control there are only ten of them & three para pros. One girl is a real handful she is a fourth grader I think she was screaming & yelling she even started hitting one of the para pros. The students blew through the assignment sheets we had for them. It was probably the only class I have been in so far that has left me feeling totally helpless. If it wasn't for an unplanned fire drill I don't know if we would have had anything else for them to do.

Day 5, The 1st of Many Mondays
Its
Monday and the start of my second week as a student teacher. I thought I
would have a hard time changing my sleep schedule to fit student
teaching. It hasn't really been that hard I wake up between 5:30 - 6:30
a.m. leave the house between 7:00 - 7:15 a.m. to arrive at school. By
8:00 a.m. Now if I can just change my diet to something a little healthier
instead of food on the go everything will be good. The great thing about
Mondays is that the first three classes are our doubles which means here we are
week to and they are on to table folders. This is good we haven’t
crunched the numbers yet but we are estimating that we see 700 students a week.
In addition to doing table folders the plan is to put each class in assigned
seats for the remainder of the year. Also this is our first day to meet the
young fives. I was so shocked by this class it is essentially preschool
with only 10 boys in it. For the rest of the afternoon we are back to doing the
spiel & helper cards.
Friday, September 6, 2013
Day 4, Week 1 Down
First things first I'm am official I am signed up & registered. Its Friday back at Savage another day of the spiel. My co-operating teacher gives me a little more rope in letting me give the spiel in a couple of classes I am even given control of the class during work time this allows me to get to know the students more since I only see them once a week. The school day is over but I still have to work tonight, I wonder how long I can keep this crazy schedule going. All I can say is that one week down and I am having a blast I can't believe I have come this far.
Thursday, September 5, 2013
Day 3, The 1st Day at The Edge.
This is the first official day at Edgemont Elementary when I arrive my co-operating teacher & I have to head outside for morning bus duty. While my teacher is doing the morning announcements I am getting the room ready for the first class, here at the Edge we have morning prep the first class of the day so we don't see students until 9:45. This is a fairly simple day because we are doing the exact same thing that we did at Savage yesterday. Since I have heard the spiel so I am up on deck for at least one class today running the show. My co-operating teacher jumps in every now and then since she has that loud cutting voice that the students know through experience and reputation. The music teacher came in during out prep and I was talking to him, he knew I was s student teacher and he asked me if I was sure this was something I wanted to do for a living. Can't let this psych me out he seems only a couple of years away from retirement but at the same time he also seems very bitter about the system and how things have deteriorated over time. By the end of the day there was only one class that was behind where we wanted them to be. Began's 2nd grade was late to the art room so they weren't able to start their helper cards which means when we start their table folders they'll have to work double time to do both in one day.

The 2nd Official Day.... But the 1st Real Day
This is the first official day of on my way to being a teacher I am still not officially registered in the eyes of the university but I am here anyway signing in as a volunteer helper. I mean lets face I've come to far to be held back now. We stared out the day on morning bus duty just like over at the Edge, it looks as though that is going to be standard at both schools. We saw a handful of kindergarteners today but they don't officially start art class until next week because for many of them this is their first week in school ever. So we took the few that we saw on a tour of the school. Today was one class after another boom, boom, boom; I am amazed at how quickly the day has just flown by. All we did today was introductions, procedures, and begin our helper cards. This is going to be the plan for the rest of this week especially since at this school we only see three of the classes two days a week and the rest of the school once a week. Tonight is open house for the parents where they can stop by talk with the teachers in general a meet and greet. There are several student teachers in both of the elementary schools I am in I am there along with my co-operating teacher and we are introduced to the parents by the principle. I am tired at the end of the day, but its a good type of tied its a tired that comes over you when you know you have accomplished something.

Game Day, Sort Of
Technically this is the first official day of classes for the schools in Van Buren County however for those of us who considered the specials teachers we do not see students on this day because it is a half day for the entire district. So today I continued organizing the cupboards at this school so I made sure everything was ready for us when we came back to this particular location on Thursday. At Edgemont my Co-Operating teacher has been tasked for bus duty in the morning which I will be helping out with while I am here she is also in charge of the morning announcements.

Student Teaching - Pre-Game, Day 3
Today we went over to Savage Elementary to start setting up the room for the first week of school. I wasn't surprised when I discovered that my co-operating teacher is just like all of the other art teachers I have met over the years, a hoarder of supplies that have the potential to be useful at a later date. Today I focused on taking the protective plexiglass covers off of the tables so I could put a new cut paper design under each of them and clean them for the new year. This project took up pretty much the entire day. I created a cut paper stencil design that matched the work of the artist in the color of each of the tables. This would allow over the course of the year for the students to learn through repeated viewings what each artist's work looked like. I must say I am quite proud of these stencils and I hope to document them before I leave. Also at this time I was not officially registered as a student teacher but was awaiting the official announcement that my paperwork had been approved.

Student Teaching - Pre-Game, Day 2
The second in-service day is upon me, I have gotten into a routine of going to bed by 9 or 10 p.m. at night and waking up at 5:30 a.m. Today I am driving to Edgemont Elementary School which is going to be the second elementary school I have been placed for my primary student teaching. I will be teaching at Savage Elementary three days a week and Edgemont Elementary two days a week. Today I met the other elementary art teachers in the district. My co-operating teacher and I will be sharing the classroom at Edgemont with the other two elementary art teachers throughout the week. I started organizing the cupboards in the this room The teachers were there until about 4 p.m. because they had a staff meeting at 2:30. I myself had to leave at 1 to be at a meeting with my College of Education Coordinator.

Student Teaching - Pre-Game, Day 1
I showed up early for the first of three in service days which would serve as my introduction the the world of teaching. The days started off warm and wet because it was steadily raining I made my way to Bellville MI, for the open house introduction for the returning and new staff of the Van Buren Public School District. I was amazed how everybody casually slowly arrived I was expecting the majority of the returning staff to arrived close to 8 a.m. like myself. but instead I saw some still rolling in as the program was about to start at 9 a.m. The high schools marching band put on a live performance for the staff. The administrators of the individual schools introduced their new and returning staff members. After the program was over I made my way down to the cafeteria with my co-operating teacher for the reading writing workshop for the elementary teachers. Overall I came away with the impression that being a teacher is just another layer to an individual a definition of who they are every waking hour. I was amazed I guess in a way how they reminded me of people I hang out with at college yet they have also been able to move past that phase. It was during this workshop that I met Mr. Cooper a third year teacher at one of the elementary schools who I hope to model some aspects of my teaching style after.

Gearing Up for Student Teaching
This morning I had an interview with an elementary teacher about possibly being her student teacher for the fall semester. Throughout the interview I learned that she doesn't have a standard degree in art education and that she is one of three elementary art teachers in the district. In looking throughout the classroom I noticed that the art lessons that she has been using are rather generic and art history based. She said the only drawback to the choosing me as a student teacher is that I showed up late for the interview; she stated that she wasn't trying to be mean or bitchy but by stating that that's exactly how she came off. My only pet peeve about the interview was that her email said that I could arrive between 8:15 & 9:45 and she said that I was late or that I would have been better to meet on Wednesday when she originally called which at the time I was just walking into work. I guaranteed her that when it comes to teaching I have been to schools at least half an hour early. The long and the short of it is that I got the position as her student teacher for the fall she is going to talk to the middle school and high school teachers about taking me on for my secondary position. So the good news is that I have at least one teaching position for the fall out of two. Now I just need to take 1 or 2 summer art classes to raise my GPA and then I will be all set for the fall semester and on to graduation.
Day Two of Subbing
Here it is a week later and I have officially finished my second day as a sub. This was a different school and a whole different type of class all together. I showed up at the elementary school 20 minutes early so I could familiarize myself with the classroom and the lesson plan that the teacher was leaving behind. This was an interesting assignment because I actually got to meet the teacher before the beginning of the school day to go over the lesson. This was also a self contained special education classroom within the elementary school for 1st and 2nd grade students. I found out from talking with the teacher that there was one student with muscular dystrophy another with a colostomy and one with cerebral palsy. Once I met the students I really grew to like this class as the day went on. The first part of the day was spent in art where the students got to glaze I got to help the student with cerebral palsy in that class I was amazed at how enthusiastic he was to be working on art. This has been one of the more enjoyable classes that I have been in during the last year. I think that maybe down the road I wouldn't mind going back to school and getting a degree in special education. The afternoon was taken up mostly by an assembly based on a children's story. At the end of the day I walked the kids to the bus so they could head home.

My First Day as a Substitute Teacher
May 16th was my first day as a substitute teacher, I couldn't get to sleep the night before so I stayed up all night reading and working on potential lesson plans in case I needed a back up. I started getting ready at 6:00 AM even though I didn't have to be at the school until 8:30 AM. I arrived a good half hour early, this was a huge school it had three floors. I found out after I got there that the teacher I was subbing for had a student teacher who would be taking charge of the classes for the whole day I would just be there as a qualified assistant. This was in some ways a blessing and a curse, on the one hand my first day as a sub would be a breeze because this guy would be doing all the heavy lifting. The curse part of it was that he was doing such a good job that my being there was just a formality mostly all I did was take attendance, I didn't even get to introduce myself to the classes. By the end of the day in the planning period I found myself nodding off because I was so tired due to not getting any sleep the night before and boredom from not being allowed to participate in interacting with the class. All in I hope my next sub position is a little more hands on.
